What is Supported Independent Living?
The NDIS Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes are for participants who have SIL funding in their plan. It means that participants live with housemates, have access to 24/7 care and live as independently as possible.
The NDIS is built on the principle of choice and control, allowing individuals to have more say in the type of support they receive and the goals they want to achieve. NDIS SIL homes aim to empower individuals to make decisions about their living arrangements and support services.

SIL homes for people with Psychosocial Disability
Psychosocial disabilities are related to mental health conditions that may affect a person’s ability to live independently and participate fully in their community. At Astute Living Care we offer SIL homes for participants with psychosocial disability and other mental health conditions in Sydney, Wollongong and the Illawara regions.
Why should participants with psychosocial disability choose our SIL homes?
Our experienced matchmakers match participants and make sure housemates have similar needs, goals and aspirations. This is to ensure that residents can engage with each other, don’t feel isolated, and it also improves their overall well-being.
We offer personalised support tailored to the specific needs of each individual. The support is designed to enhance the person’s ability to live independently, manage their mental health, and participate in daily activities.
Having a stable and secure place to live is fundamental for anyone’s well-being. Our SIL homes provide a safe and comfortable living environment, which can be crucial for people with psychosocial disabilities who may face housing instability due to their condition.
Our supports focus on helping participants develop essential life skills to live as independently as possible. This may include activities such as managing finances, cooking, cleaning, and personal care, which can improve their independence and self-confidence.
Our SIL homes play a vital role in integrating participants into their local communities. By living in a shared home setting, residents have opportunities to engage with others, build social connections, and participate in community activities, which can reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness.
The support staff in our SIL homes are qualified and trained mental health support workers. They understand psychosocial disability and can assist with mental health challenges. They can help residents implement coping strategies, manage symptoms, and access appropriate mental health services when needed. Our trained staff on hand can also identify early signs of distress and intervene effectively to prevent situations from escalating.
